Neighborhood Insights for Any US Area
Ask about a neighborhood in your own words and get a livability score you can read, an honest rundown and the best places nearby.
Listings tell you about a home; they rarely tell you what it's like to live around it. Snestico's neighborhood insights answer the questions people ask before they move: is it safe, what do people pay, how long is the commute, where are the good schools and the nearest hospital. You type a city, neighborhood, ZIP code or address, and follow up as you would with a friend who lives there. This page explains what you get and how the scores are worked out.
What you get for an area
- A plain-words rundown: the feel of the area and who it suits, safety, rents and costs, commute and transit, schools and standout spots
- A livability score out of 100, made of four parts you can see
- Quick facts, such as a typical one-bedroom rent or the travel time to the main job center
- The top places nearby from Google Maps, with photos, ratings, distance and a map
- Side-by-side comparisons when you ask about two areas
- Three good follow-up questions after every answer
How the livability score is worked out
The livability score is the plain average of four parts, each scored from 0 to 100 for the area from current web sources. Because it's an average, you can always see why an area scored the way it did, and a weak part is never hidden behind a single number.
Scores are a way to compare areas, not a guarantee: conditions can change from block to block, so use them to shortlist places and then check what matters most to you in person.
- Safety: reported crime trends and what residents say about the area, day and night
- Affordability: typical rents and living costs compared with the wider region (higher means easier on the budget)
- Transit: train, subway and bus access, and typical commute times to the main job centers
- Amenities: schools, parks, groceries, shops and places to eat within easy reach
Places nearby, on a map
Next to every answer you can browse the best-rated places around the area, ranked by rating weighted by how many people reviewed them, so a 4.6 from thousands outranks a 5.0 from three. Each place shows its photo, rating, distance and links to open it in Google Maps or get directions; picking one flies the map to it.
Ask about a kind of place, like hospitals or universities, and that tab opens by itself.
- Schools and universities
- Hospitals and emergency care
- Police and fire stations
- Train, subway and bus stations
- Restaurants, malls and grocery stores
- Things to do and parks

Common questions
How can I get information about a neighborhood by address?
Type the address, ZIP code or neighborhood into Snestico's neighborhood insights. You get a rundown of safety, rents, commute and schools, a livability score made of four visible parts, and the top places nearby on a map. Follow-up questions keep the same area in mind.
What is a livability score?
A single number that sums up how easy an area is to live in. On Snestico it is the average of four parts scored from 0 to 100: safety, affordability, transit and amenities. Each part is shown, so you can see what pulls the score up or down.
How do I know if a neighborhood is safe?
Start with the safety part of the livability score and the rundown, which draw on reported crime trends and what residents say. Then check your city or police department's crime map for the exact blocks, and visit on a weeknight and a weekend evening before you sign.
Where does the information come from?
Answers and scores use current web sources, and places nearby come from Google Maps. Snestico shows estimates as estimates and never invents a number it can't find.
Is it free?
Yes. Neighborhood insights are free with a Snestico account.
Can I compare two neighborhoods?
Yes. Ask something like "Compare Hoboken and Jersey City" and you get both livability scores side by side, with the facts that differ.
