Snestico vs Roomster
Both help you find a room or a roommate in the US. Here is how they differ on cost, messages, matching and safety, with sources.
Roomster is one of the best-known roommate apps, and it has far more rooms listed than Snestico today. Snestico is newer and smaller, and it is built around one thing: renting safely when you're moving somewhere new. This page compares the two on what costs money, how messages work, how roommates are matched and what each does about scams. Facts about Roomster come from its own website and app store listing as of October 2026; prices and features change, so check Roomster's site before you decide.

The short answer
If you want the biggest pool of rooms in a city right now, Roomster lists more than Snestico. If you want to message people without paying, check a listing for scams before you send money and see why a roommate fits you, Snestico does all of that free.
Many people use more than one site. Whatever you use, run the listing and the messages through a scam check before any money moves.
Messages and what you pay
Roomster's FAQ says creating an account, searching and posting a listing are free, and that its subscription plans, with weekly and monthly options, unlock features "like reading and responding to any message without delay". Roomster doesn't publish its subscription prices on its website.
On Snestico, searching, roommate matching, in-app chat and Scam Check are free. Optional extras are paid once and never renew, and safety tools are never paid.
How roommates are matched
Roomster offers search filters for price, neighborhood and lifestyle, and shows recommended matches based on your budget, location and preferences.
Snestico compares up to 24 everyday habits, such as sleep, cleanliness, guests, pets and budget, and shows a compatibility score only when you have both answered enough of the same questions. Each match explains where you agree, where you differ and any dealbreakers.
Safety and verification
Roomster says members confirm a phone number and email at sign-up, that any member can upload a government ID for its team to review by hand, and that messages are screened by people and software.
On Snestico, verification is optional: members can upload a photo ID, a student ID, proof of address or an employment letter, and our team reviews each request by hand. Snestico does not run background checks, so meet in public. Every listing card shows warning signs when a listing has them, and Scam Check reads a listing and the messages you've been sent before you pay.
In 2022 the FTC and six states sued Roomster and its owners over alleged fake reviews and listings advertised as verified. In 2023 they agreed to a settlement order that bans those practices (FTC, August 2023).
Where Roomster is the better fit
Roomster says it has helped people since 2003, it operates in many countries, and has a much larger pool of rooms and people than Snestico. If you need options in a small city or outside the US, or you need a room this week, start there, and check each listing before you pay.
Before you pay anyone, on any site
- Never pay a deposit or a "hold" fee for a home you or someone you trust hasn't seen.
- Treat requests to pay by wire transfer, gift card, crypto or Zelle before a viewing as a red flag.
- Ask for a live video walkthrough from the street to the door if you can't visit.
- Paste the listing and the messages into a free Scam Check before any money moves.
